Getting Started with a Gamepad in ER:LC

Emergency Response: Liberty County supports standard Roblox controller layouts on Xbox, PlayStation, and many third-party pads. When you connect a controller, Roblox automatically switches input mode; you no longer need WASD for movement. The left stick moves your character on foot or steers when seated in one of the 72+ vehicles spread across River City, Springfield, and Liberty County countryside. The right stick controls the camera, which matters as much as throttle when backing an RCFR ladder truck out of a Springfield bay or lining up a traffic stop on a narrow River City bridge.

Before going on duty as RCPD or LCSO, open Roblox settings and confirm your controller is detected. Adjust camera sensitivity lower than keyboard-mouse defaults—many console players overshoot intersections because ER:LC uses semi-realistic weight and momentum. Test interact prompts at a civilian spawn: if X (Xbox) or Square (PlayStation) does not open doors, reconnect the pad or restart the experience. ER:LC does not offer in-game remapping for department keys like Quick Radio; you must learn PRC fixed bindings.

Controller players excel at analog steering during long Liberty County pursuits but may struggle with precise inventory hotkeys. Bind critical police gear—handcuffs, spike strips, firearms—to comfortable shoulder combinations in Roblox if supported, or pause safely before swapping loadouts. Pair this guide with Keyboard Controls if you switch devices mid-session; emergency keys stay identical in function even when the physical buttons change.

On-Foot Movement and Interaction

On foot, the left stick walks or runs depending on how far you push it; click L3 (left stick press) to sprint on many Roblox experiences including ER:LC, matching the Left Shift sprint keyboard players use to reach hospital entrances or robbery cooldown zones. A (Xbox) or Cross (PlayStation) jumps curbs outside the jewelry store or vault approaches. The right stick looks around—essential when scanning for fleeing suspects near Springfield gas stations or checking blind corners during house robberies.

X (Xbox) or Square (PlayStation) is the primary interact button, equivalent to F on keyboard. Stand at a vehicle door and press interact to enter as driver or passenger based on which seat you face. The same button opens shop menus, ATMs, job boards, and robbery tools when the prompt appears. If nothing triggers, rotate slightly; crowded sidewalks in River City produce finicky interaction rays. B (Circle) may activate tools depending on Roblox tool slot configuration—verify your hotbar before going on duty.

Menu navigation uses the D-pad or stick with A/Cross to confirm. Esc or the Xbox/PlayStation home button opens Roblox overlay; remember chat and system menus block driving inputs until you click back into the game world. Department roleplay still expects radio discipline: even controller players should prefer Quick Radio over typing ten-codes in text chat during active pursuits.

Driving and Emergency Vehicle Keys

Once seated, RT (R2) accelerates and LT (L2) brakes or reverses—mirror of W and S on keyboard. Feather RT when leaving the bank parking lot with stolen cash; heavy civilian trucks and DOT plows spin out easier than RCPD interceptors if you mash throttle. The left stick provides analog steering, helpful for smooth lane changes on Liberty County highways during LCSO traffic enforcement.

Shoulder bumpers map to turn signals: LB (L1) activates the left signal (keyboard Q) and RB (R1) the right signal (keyboard E). Use them before lane changes near the River City roundabout so other players predict your path. D-pad Down toggles hazard flashers (keyboard G)—critical when you block a lane after an accident or conduct a felony stop. D-pad Up cycles headlights, taillights, and emergency light bars (keyboard L); tap rhythmically to find siren stages without blasting air horns in the RCPD station lot.

B (Circle) honks the horn (keyboard H)—short taps for courtesy, longer bursts when clearing intersections during code responses. Y (Triangle) opens Quick Radio (keyboard Y) for coded status without typing. Parking brake (keyboard P) has no dedicated controller button on most layouts; hold a safe stop with LT on hills or use keyboard P if you hybrid-play. Combine these controls with map knowledge: Springfield one-way streets punish wrong-way pursuits regardless of input device.

Train muscle memory in this order: clean driving with RT/LT, then D-pad Up for lights, then Y for Quick Radio. New RCPD recruits who spam D-pad Up before mastering steering often clip curbs at the River City hospital approach. Spend ten minutes in a private server practicing LB/RB signals at idle and Y-menu selections without moving—muscle memory transfers to high-stress pursuits.

During joint RCPD–LCSO operations or RCFR mutual aid, announce your input device if you are driver: passengers may need to handle keyboard-only tasks in some community events. If you play both console and PC, keep Roblox controller settings consistent; ER:LC emergency bindings cannot be remapped inside the experience.
